5. Royal (Belgian Malinois cross, six months)
Royal is an intelligent and high energy young dog who is looking for a home who is experienced with the breed Royal knows some basic commands but does require further training, and will likely need ongoing training to keep his clever brain occupied! He gets very excited around other dogs and absolutely loves playing with them, he is very vocal initially then goes on to rather rough playing, living up to the nickname “malligator” Royal is a sweet young dog who loves playing with a tennis ball and will happily play all day long if you let him, he has a lot of energy to burn and needs to be taught productive ways to burn it | NDCS Photo: Newcastle Dog & Cat Shelter

6. Poppy (Rotweiler, five years)
Poppy is an absolute delight and very much a bit of a BFG! She oblivious to her size and strength and will happily bound over to greet you! Poppy is full of personality and can be a bit goofy at times, she enjoys being out (though could be encouraged to walk a little more) and thoroughly enjoys a good roll around in the field! Poppy needs to go to a home to a family with large breed experience who can spend lots of time training her to walk a little better on lead and she does have a tendency to pull. Poppy is also substantially overweight so will need owners dedicated to helping her find a healthier way of living so she can live her best life or many years to come. | NDCS Photo: Newcastle Dog & Cat Shelter

7. Bowie (Labrador, eight years)
Bowie is a gorgeous big handsome lad who has struggled in the shelter environment. Bowie is strong as an ox and pulls like a tank implying he has had little to no lead training – in fact we feel lit is likely he has never walked on a lead before. Bowie has really begun to come out of his shell, and we are beginning to see the really beautiful boy within, but he can still get quite anxious quite quickly and easily forgets his manners when over-aroused, often mouthing and jumping. Bowie is looking for an experienced home, preferably with experience of working breeds, who has confidence in their strength and ability to teach Bowie how to walk better on a lead, and how to control his emotions a little better. Bowie will be a delight to get to know once you get past his initial worries, and we have no doubt will make the most wonderful companion. | NDCS Photo: Newcastle Dog & Cat Shelter

8. Pico ( Dachshund crossbreed, one year)
Pico is a gorgeous boy who has been amazing with everyone he’s met whilst in our care! He’s a super friendly boy who loves to be around people, he sometimes gets overexcited and starts running around being all silly. He has the odd moment where he is slightly anxious (understandably we feel!), but remains super friendly throughout. Pico can be a little anxious when meeting other dogs and sometimes chooses not to approach them. We feel this is a confidence issue with him and something that should improve in time with the right socialisation. If he is to be rehomed with another dog, we feel a friendly and confident but calm dog would be best for him. We think Pico will likely struggle with some separation anxiety so a home where someone will be around most of the time, especially to begin with, will be necessary, and someone who is happy to work with this and help him feel more secure on his own. | NDCS Photo: Newcastle Dog & Cat Shelter
