Metro line closure continues into further summer weekends
Tyne and Wear services will be impacted over the coming weekends by further rail works.
A planned Metro line closure will continue into its second and third weekends in July.
Nexus, the brand which operates the Tyne and Wear Metro, has said no trains will run between Brockley Whins and South Hylton on Saturday, July 11 and Sunday, July 12 as well as the following weekend after the final weekend of June also saw planned line closures.

This follows Network Rail work which ran throughout the previous weekend.
It will be the third weekend in a row no trains will run along the line which serves much of southern South Tyneside, including Brockley Whins and East Boldon Stations, as well as all of Sunderland.
The final week of June saw a closure on the same stretch of track end up running up to Pelaw in Gateshead due to additional required work.
The closure is to make way for Network Rail work, which shares the stretch of track with the Metro services, although the nationwide group operate the running of the line.
No trains will run throughout the full stretch of closed track across both days.
A replacement bus service number 901 will be running between Brockley Whins and South Hylton calling at all stations in both directions.
The Metro operating team is advising passengers to leave extra time for their journeys across Sunderland, South Tyneside and the wider system.
The following weekend will also see services impacted by further Network Rail work.
Across Saturday, July 18 and Sunday, June 19 Network Rail work will pause services between the extended stretch of track between Pelaw and South Hylton in both directions.
Anyone planning on travelling throughout the coming weekends can find the replacement bus timetable on the new Travel North East website alongside live Metro updates on the system’s mobile phone app.
The work will include 664 metres of track renewal through both platforms at Sunderland station as well as the complete renewal of eight sets of points. These are the sections of track allowing trains to switch between lines.
Heating equipment to prevent issues in cold weather will also be renewed, as well nearly 400 metres of the drainage system at Brockley Whins Metro station.
