Newcastle close in on Everton defender Brendan Galloway
Galloway is a target for Rafa Benitez, who is keen to strengthen his defence for the Championship.
Newcastle could have to pay a seven-figure loan fee to sign the 20-year-old, signed from Milton Keynes Dons two years ago.
The left-back, a regular for Everton last season, would compete with Paul Dummett and summer signing Jesus Gamez, who can also play at right-back.
Dummett – who signed a new long-term deal earlier this year – started Friday night’s season-opening 1-0 defeat to Fulham at Craven Cottage, but struggled at times.
Galloway, under contract at Goodison Park until 2020, could join Newcastle this week ahead of Saturday’s home game against Huddersfield Town, with negotiations understood to be at an advanced stage.
The Zimbabwe-born player has represented England up to Under-19 level.
Newcastle are also looking to sign a striker and winger before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.
Meanwhile, the Huddersfield game is set for a sell-out, with ticket sales having already passed the 50,000-mark.
