"Bodie was a force bred puppy born in 2006, who was licenced to patrol the streets of Northumbria from October 2007. During his time on the streets Bodie excelled as a Police Dog, being involved in numerous high profile incidents & producing some outstanding results.

"In 2010 Bodie made the step up to become a Firearms Support Dog, working with our firearms teams, a standard that only the very best of our dogs achieve.

"Bodie was a big dog who will be a big miss to us all."

Pet lovers also joined in saying goodbye to the hound.

Wayne Wilson said: "Don't be sad when a working dog walks over the rainbow bridge he is just clearing the path ahead and making the other side safer for everyone else x a loss to those left behind but an asset to all the other pups on the other side x"

Debbie Rose Hinds said: "Rip Bodie a proper dog with a proper job to do, he must of had the most stimulated brain going, and loved his pack leader."

Miranda Oliver-Brown said: "Thank you Bodie for all your hard work. R.I.P big lad - we are all so proud of you.

My thoughts are with his owners at this sad time."
