Nearly 300 people, including 44 cancer survivors, took part in the annual event at Monkton Stadium.
Ann Walsh has organised the Jarrow Relay for Life since it began in 2007 after her dad was diagnosed with lung cancer, and has gone on to raise a combined total of more than £1million for Cancer Research UK.
Speaking ahead of the event, Ann said: “ I’ve got mixed emotions about it - I know for a fact I’ll be gutted when it is the end because it has taken over my life for the last 19 years.”
Ann was there to cut the ribbon to start the relay for one last time as a lone bagpiper led participants on the first section of the course.
