I've had my own mental health struggles and I want to use the power of comedy to help others
“I’ve struggled with my own mental health in the past and comedy has been a brilliant outlet for me”
The words of Washington comedian Mike Wardley who has embarked on a stand-up tour to raise awareness of men’s mental health.

Mike has performed in some of the UK’s top comedy clubs, including Liverpool’s famous Hot Water - and has billed with popular names such as Lost Voice Guy, Phil Ellis, Carl Hutchinson and Kevin Bridges.
However, this is the first time Mike has headlined an event with his first performance of the ‘Mike Wardley, Who?’ show taking place last week at The Stand comedy club in Newcastle where he received a standing ovation.
The 41-year-old funny-man opened up about difficult topics such as men’s mental health and the physical side effects, while keeping crowds laughing. The show ended with Mike calling for men to open up about their struggles.

The dad-of-two, who also works in marketing, said: “I’ve struggled with my own mental health in the past and comedy has been a brilliant outlet for me, so it’s great that I can try and raise awareness in a way that people find digestible rather than scary.
“The stigma around men’s mental health is definitely getting better, however I think there is still a way to go to encourage men to open up more and talk about their feelings.
“I’m not afraid to admit that before the show I was incredibly anxious, but as soon as I stepped on stage and felt that first laugh it melted away.”
Mike is an avid supporter of suicide prevention charity Andy’s Man Club and last year (2025) took on a gruelling 124 walk from St James Park to Elland Road in Leeds, raising £58,000 in the process.
Following the show Mike said: “Everyone knows that you can’t beat a North East crowd, they know how to have fun and are always so warm and welcoming.
“To have my own show was overwhelming enough, but to get such a response from the audience really left me on a high for days. It was incredible, and I am so thankful for the amazing support.”
Andy’s Man’s Club is a suicide prevention charity, offering free to attend peer-to-peer support groups across the United Kingdom and online.
