Meet the care home team leader who received national recognition for his pandemic work
A team leader at a Jarrow care home has achieved national recognition for his efforts in caring for some of the community’s most vulnerable during the coronavirus pandemic.
Anthony Bage, a team leader at Palmersdene care home in Jarrow, has been awarded the national Care Home Frontline Leader accolade in the Great British Care Awards 2020.
The dedicated staff member impressed judges for his positive approach to work, despite dealing with an extremely challenging year in care as a result of the coronavirus crisis.

Going up against other regional winners in the country, the selection process saw him interviewed by a number of judges.
Anthony found out about his win at the end of last month during a virtual award ceremony held on Zoom. The original celebration was cancelled because of the Covid-19 outbreak.
“It has been a very hard year for all the people working in care and I am so proud of Anthony being recognised for the work he does for our customers and team members.
"He is always professional, kind, caring and puts the needs of others first.
"He is an inspiration to all of his team cascading knowledge and high standards of care.
"It is so nice to receive positive happy news for a change.”
