Northumberland girl, seven, writes emotional letter to Prime Minister pleading for PPE help for her mum

Seven-year-old Maisie Potts, from Morpeth, wrote a letter to the Prime Minister after learning of the difficulty her mum, Louise, was having getting fabric.

Louise, who owns Great British Interiors on Bridge Street explained: “We have recently closed due to the pandemic and our seamstresses have been furloughed but they are volunteering their time to make PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) for the NHS.”

A 35-strong network of seamstresses are working remotely from their homes, while they also have 10 drivers.

“We raised £1,300 from friends and family but sadly we have used all of this to buy material for scrubs,” said Louise, who has taken numerous orders from doctors, nurses and carers.

“We have been able to use rolls of fabric we already had in the shop for the wash bags but the scrubs fabric is more specialised so have needed to buy this.

“It’s quite hard to find as there is a demand for it but we have found a supply. However, we’ve run out of funds.”

That is when Maisie, unprompted, wrote her letter to Boris Johnson.

She wrote: ‘Dear Mr Johnson, I hope you are ok. My mummy has a curtain shop and her and her friends are making clothing for the doctors and nurses. But they have run out of fabric. Please can we have some fabric because they are doing a great job.”
