South Shields street sings Happy Birthday to great-great-grandmother on her 100th birthday

Jenny Hudson, who has lived in Centenary Avenue for 62 years, celebrated her 100th birthday on Monday, June 22, and was over the moon by the kindness of all those who helped make it a very special day.

The centenarian also received a visit from two police officers, PC Neil Morris and PCSO Gayle Muizelaar who stopped by to wish her a happy birthday.

Jenny was touched by the efforts of her neighbours who turned out to sing happy birthday to her.

Her daughter Audrey Watson said: “It was a bit more difficult to celebrate with everything that’s going on.

“She hasn’t been well since February and was in hospital for three weeks.

“She came and sat at the front step and all of her neighbours came out to sing happy birthday.

“So many people turned out. She has about 60 cards, including one from the Queen, and so many people brought her flowers – she could set up a florist from her home now!

“All of her family came to see her and at one point we had five generations of the family visiting.”

Jenny was married to her husband Alexander Hudson for many years but he sadly passed away when he was just 58 – 43 years ago.

They have two children Audrey, 69, and Dennis, who sadly died aged 77 last year.

Now Jenny has three granddaughters, seven great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter.

Audrey added: “It’s just such an achievement to reach 100. She was touched by everyone who came to see her.”
