South Tyneside Council 'monitoring situation' as several travellers' caravans and motorhomes park up near Commercial Road in South Shields

South Tyneside Council is monitoring a situation after a number of travellers caravans and motorhomes were spotted behind Commercial Road in South Shields.

The vehicles were first spotted near the Trimmers Arms in the Holborn area on Wednesday, August 5 – and as of Friday, August 7, the vehicles remain on the council-owned site.

No attempt to remove the caravans and motorhomes has been made so far but South Tyneside Council say there are aware of the situation and will be monitoring it closely while it assesses it’s options.

This could include the use of ‘appropriate legal powers’ if necessary, the authority has said.
