Public consultation launched on bus franchising in the North East

People in South Tyneside have been asked to have their say on the future of public transport in the North East.

Residents from across the North East are being asked to take part in a consultation on the future of the region’s buses.

Undertaken by North East Mayor Kim McGuinness, the questionnaire asks the public about proposed plans for a bus franchising scheme, bringing the region into line with Greater Manchester, Leeds and London where buses are all operated within the same system.

As part of the consultation announcement, McGuiness’ team has claimed the changes will allow the North East Mayoral Strategic Authority (MSA) to set routes, decide service standards and contract bus operators to run on behalf of the Authority.

Anyone who wants to have their say on the proposals of the future setup of buses across the region can have their say until Monday, September 28 through the North East Combined Authority website.

Alternatively the public can call the local authority on 0191 277 4223 or email [email protected].
