RSPCA make South Tyneside wildlife appeal - here's how you can help

The RSPCA is making an renewed South Tyneside wildlife appeal - and here's how you can help.

The RSPCA is urging the people of South Tyneside to not forget wildlife after the latest national heatwave.

The appeal also comes as the RSPCA’s Cruelty Hurts Love Rescues campaign shines a light on the charity’s busiest time of year, when inspectors, rescuers and animal rescue officers respond to thousands of calls about animals in need.placeholder image

A renewed appeal from the organisation follows a previous bout of hot weather which saw the RSPCA experience its busiest day of the year.

On June 24, 4,135 calls came in from people concerned about animals. And now, amid its Summer of Kindness, the charity is urging the public to do more to help wild animals amid soaring temperatures.

Rebecca Machin, wildlife expert for the RSPCA, said: “The last heatwave showed just how quickly extreme temperatures can affect animals, including wildlife.

“We’re asking people not to forget about wildlife. Many wild animals will be struggling to find water, food and shelter, but there are simple things we can all do to help.”

The RSPCA is encouraging people to leave out shallow dishes of fresh water, create shaded areas, leave food out and keep dogs under control around wildlife during the hot weather.
