Shields Ferry set to return to its full timetable following crew availability issues

The Shields Ferry is set to return to its full timetable following a reduced service period.

Nexus has announced that the Shields Ferry is set to return to its full service timetable following issues with crew availability.

The River Tyne crossing has been operating at a temporary reduced service but Nexus has confirmed that hiring three new crew members has resolved the issue.

It means that from Monday, July 20, the first weekday and Saturday crossings from South Shields will now leave at 6.45am, instead of 7.15am.

Evening journeys will also return to their normal timetable, operating until 8pm on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesdays, 10.50pm on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, and 6pm on Sundays.

This year has been tumultuous one for the service after storm damage caused the Ferry’s northern landing to close in January.

Nexus have thanked customers for their patience during the disruption period.
