South Shields barber gives £1,400 boost to a cancer charity following her own diagnosis

A South Shields barber with incurable cancer has raised more than £1,400 for a cancer charity.

A much-loved South Shields barber has held a haircut day in honour of a charity that has helped her with an incurable cancer diagnosis.

Inese Hunter, the owner of Baltic Barbers, on Dean Road, held the event on Sunday, September 6, in an effort to raise vital funds for Cancer Connections.

Cancer Connections, which is a South Tyneside-based charity, has been helping Inese with Reiki therapy following her diagnosis and it has resulted in her wanting to give back to the charity.

As a result, Inese has managed to raise £1,410 for the charity and thanked those who have helped her on the fundraising journey.

She said: “It was such a lovely atmosphere and a really good day - it is amazing to raise that amount of money for Cancer Connections.

“I’m absolutely over the moon, I can’t run the Great North Run but if I can use my skills to raise some money and give something back to them, then that’s what I’ll do.

“We didn’t do that many haircuts on the day but we managed to raise £300 to go along with the JustGiving page for a total of £1,410.

“But making £300 on a Sunday only with walk-ins is really good and an amazing amount.

“I wouldn’t have been able to do this without the support of my customers, friends and family so I’m chuffed.”
