Trial date set for South Shields man who denies using BMW without insurance

A trial date has been set for a South Shields man after he denied allegations he used a BMW with no insurance and failed to provide police with a blood sample.

A South Shields man who admitted to having cannabis on him denied allegations he used a BMW without insurance and failed to provide police with a blood sample.

Kyle Hammond, of Grasmere Road, Hebburn, was found by police officers “slumped over the wheel” of a white BMW on Cornwall Road, Hebburn, on August 25, 2026, South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court heard when Hammond appeared on Thursday, September 10.

However Hammond’s solicitor David Forrester told the court there was “no evidence it [the car] had been driven” and he pleaded not guilty to the offence.

Hammond, born 14/06/1992, also appeared charged with failure to provide a specimen to officers and for possession of cannabis.

The 34-year-old denied this allegation and the court heard he did have a sample of his blood taken, but he then “failed to comply with the healthcare practitioner”.

Hammond did admit to having a quantity of cannabis on him, which was found on his person at Middle Engine Lane Police Station in Wallsend after he was arrested by officers.

He pleaded guilty to this offence in court.
