Exclusive:South Shields cake shop preparing to support community after just one week of opening
A new South Shields dessert shop is already teaming up with other businesses to help children this summer.
A South Shields cake shop is already looking to branch out and help its local community just days after it opened.
Opened by married couple Hassy and Harkirat Singh, Bake and Take, a dessert based takeaway shop, is embedding itself into the heart of the community with a summer scheme alongside another local site.

Based on Whiteleas Way, the new shop opened on Thursday, July 2 and the family team are already diving into community work.
They are teaming up with another Whiteleas food spot, Phat Mamas, to offer lunch boxes to children over the summer holidays.
“Phat Mamas has been amazing in terms of promoting us and bringing us business” explained Hassy.
“They said they were doing free lunch boxes during the summer. When we saw that we wanted to put something in” she continued.
“It’s something we’re doing together and I think it’s really important to have local businesses coming together and doing things to help each other rather than trying to compete and bring each other down. It’s been really positive.”
It has been a positive start for the new shop which is already settling into the community.
The pair have had the keys for a while, but have held off opening after they gave birth to a child six months ago.
“It’s been hectic, but really good and really surprising to be honest” adds Hassy.
“We’ve had the keys for a while, so juggling that in between means it’s taken longer to open than we initially thought.
“The community has been amazing. Everyone’s really come together and we’ve been surprised with how well it’s gone.”
The shop is a new addition to the stretch of shops along Whiteleas Way which already includes well loved independent and branded options for shoppers and the Bake and Take team are already looking to the future of the shop.
Talking about their cake and drink options, Hassy continued: “We’re already thinking about adding more later on, and starting up deliveries.
“We’re trying to sort out the dessert and in-store stuff first. Hopefully we’ll be adding deliveries and some lunch items.”
