Stephen Hepburn MP: Jeremy Corbyn looks and sounds like a premier-in-waiting
A Labour Prime Minister in Jeremy Corbyn would save our NHS from Tory PM Theresa May destroying what we all hold so dear.
We need a General Election soon to elect the Government we deserve and put the dangerous, incompetent, squabbling Conservatives out of office and out of their misery.
Britain’s entitled to better than May’s Tory mayhem and Jeremy looked and sounded every inch a Premier-in-waiting at this week’s Labour conference.
Fizzing with great ideas and enthusiasm, I can’t wait for Corbyn to come back to Tyneside where I know the lovely, honest Labour leader is guaranteed a hero’s welcome.
Weak and wobbly May couldn’t pull a crowd big enough to fill a telephone box.
You might remember Corbyn spoke in the Monkton Stadium and our local Labour meeting about this time last year to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Jarrow March.
“Health care is a right and not a privilege,” said Jeremy before he signed the petition to save South Tyneside Hospital, “and it should be provided as locally as possible.”
He was spot on, and in the fight to Save Our Services I recently chaired a packed public meeting for the Save South Tyneside Hospital Campaign in Hedworthfield Communality Association.
The determination of working people to keep what is ours, to halt the closures, is inspiring when Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt’s hirelings are plotting cuts under the cloak of a “review” side-lining doctors, nurses, staff and – most importantly – patients.
Care under threat includes treatment and support for stroke victims, maternity services including the special care baby unit, gynaecology and children and young people.
We must all do whatever it takes to halt this Tory-inspired vandalism at South Tyneside Hospital. Come and join me and many others on the rally organised by the Save South Tyneside Hospital Campaigners on Saturday, October 14, at 11.30am, starting off from Haven Point in South Shields.
People who used Jarrow’s popular NHS walk-in centre at Palmers Hospital – all 26,000 of them a year – know these Mickey Mouse official consultations are a sham.
I want more medical consultants and fewer consultants with clipboards in joke consultations when we fear the hooligans have already made up their minds and will wreck the NHS.
I want us to get £1billion to invest in services when May clings to power through her £1billion taxpayers bung to Northern Ireland’s Democratic Unionist Party to buy votes after losing her majority in last June’s election.
Jeremy Corbyn has more integrity and dignity in a little finger than she has in her entire body, and if there was an ounce of self-respect left in May, she’d quit now instead of putting the Tory Party’s interests before the interests of the country.
Next week’s Tory conference will inadvertently make the case for change – Labour change, a Labour Government with a Labour Prime Minister – Jeremy Corbyn.
Let’s all sing it now: “Oh, Je-rem-y Cor-byn, Oh, Je-rem-y Cor-byn ...”
