The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning as South Tyneside braces for Storm Boelo.

Met Office forecasters have announced a yellow weather warning in South Tyneside ahead of Storm Storm Boelo hitting the borough.

The storm is the second named storm of the UK's weather season and is set to arrive this weekend (Saturday, October 24, to Sunday, October 25).

As a result of Storm Boelo, Met Office forecasters have issued a borough-wide yellow weather warning for wind.

The weather warning will be in place from 6pm on October 24 until 9pm on October 25.

Chris Bulmer, the Met Office Deputy Chief Forecaster, said: “Storm Boelo will bring strong winds and heavy rain to Northern Ireland, Scotland and parts of northern England over the weekend, impacting the opposite end of the country to Storm Austen.

“Gusts of 70-80mph in exposed coastal areas and high ground are possible, with 50-60mph gusts more widely.

“The strong winds will be accompanied by heavy rain, making for an impactful weekend of weather.

“Severe weather warnings and forecast detail will continue to develop, so people should keep up to date with the forecast over the next few days.”

At the time of writing, Met Office forecasters are predicting heavy rain for most of Saturday, October 24, which is expected to continue into the morning of Sunday, October 25.

Forecasters say there is a chance of some sunny spells as we head throughout Sunday afternoon but wind gusts are expected to remain high.

Temperatures are expected to reach no higher than 12°C over the course of the weekend.
