The shelter, which was established in 1896, helps animals that are unwanted, neglected, abused and abandoned - as well as reuniting lost animals with their owners and finding loving new homes for those who are no longer wanted.
Here are 23 cute animals who are in need of a home - you can find out more at: https://www.dogandcatshelter.com/.

2. Prince (Labrador Retriever)
Prince is a lovely typical, confident, cheeky and energetic young pup. He is full of beans and still very much displaying all of his puppy behaviours – so this is something that families with any young children should consider carefully. This beautiful little soul is so ready to find his forever home and begin his life with his lucky family. | Newcastle Dog & Cat Shelter
3. Koda (Husky)
Koda is a lovely, sensitive lad who seems to find the shelter environment a little overwhelming. He much prefers being out and about, away from his kennel and exploring his environment. He can be quite aloof with new people and isn’t too interested in interacting with them, however once he’s familiar with you, he can be quite an affectionate lad! | Newcastle Dog & Cat Shelter
4. Tuppence
Tuppence is a lovely young lady who is still finding her feet in the shelter's cattery and would love a quiet, patient home where she can settle in at her own pace. She’s a little wary of new people and surroundings, preferring to find a cosy high-up spot where she can keep an eye on everything around her. | Newcastle Dog & Cat Shelter
