Looking at the predictions for the week ahead from the Met Office, will South Shields see a return of the sun next week?
Forecasters say there are heavy and blustery showers ahead as we move into a new week across South Tyneside – but it’s not all bad news, with a chance of some bright and sunny spells breaking through.
Families can expect to round off the weekend with more rain on Sunday, June 7.

South Tyneside weather: Here is the forecast for the borough for the week ahead
Skies will turn overcast on Monday, June 8 – and while there's not much sun, it’s expected to stay dry all the way through to Thursday, June 11.
And it’s on Thursday that the Met Office is predicting our strongest bout of sunny spells.
Temperatures will be mild all week – between around 12°C and 15°C – as we cross our fingers for a stronger dose of sun next weekend.
The Met Office added: “Dry with sunny spells and light winds on Monday and Tuesday, before rain returns on Wednesday alongside strengthening winds.”
Recent cooler temperatures and rainy showers over the previous days follow weeks of scorching sunshine and unseasonably warm weather.
The Met Office confirmed that this spring has been the sunniest on record for the UK and all the home nations – and the driest May on record in England.
