How to keep up the new healthy habits post lockdown

Families who have developed healthier routines in lockdown have been offered five tips to help keep it up from England’s July 4 Super Saturday.

1 Plan your meals

Having your meals and snacks planned for the day means that no matter what you’re more likely to stay on track.

The stress of not knowing what to cook can make it easier to slip up and order a takeaway or put a pizza in the oven.

    2 Stick to exercise

    If you’ve picked up a healthy exercise routine in lockdown it’s essential to not undo all your hard work. If you’ve been enjoying walking or running, consider ways that you can add this into you ‘new normal’ routine.

    You could start walking to work, which gives the added benefit of avoiding public transport.

    Asking friends to go for a walk with you after work can turn it from exercise into a social occasion, perhaps making it more enjoyable, but definitely making it harder to back out of.

    3 Pubs

    It’s been slightly easier during lockdown to keep to a healthier routine as many distractions, such as pubs and restaurants have been shut.

    It’s important to be able to go out and enjoy these as they begin to open up but remember to enjoy everything in moderation.

    4 Sleep

    Sleep is so important when it comes to maintaining a healthy routine.

    Whilst you may not be able to enjoy afternoon naps anymore, ensure that you’re getting a full eight hours’ worth of sleep every night to help your body rejuvenate.

    Sleep is one of the best recovery methods we know.

    5 Water

    Keeping a big bottle of water near you at all times will make it easier to enjoy a drink whenever you’re thirsty.

    Although it could be tempting to get into the habit of drinking tea and coffee when you return to work, drinking water and staying hydrated is very important for the body.
