Ambitious signings won't bring pressure for success - insists Boldon CA joint-manager
Boldon CA kick off their 2026/27 Northern League Division Two campaign with a home game against Grangetown Boys Club on Saturday.
Boldon CA joint-manager Chris Spence believes an improvement in home form can help his new look side push for the play-off places in Northern League Division Two.
The Villa outfit have enjoyed an impressive summer of recruitment with the likes of Whitley Bay forward Callum Larmouth and Dunston UTS stalwart Liam Thear joining from clubs higher up in the non-league system. After a disappointing season last time out that had its roots in disappointing form on their home patch, there is a confidence surrounding Boldon that their high-calibre additions can trigger a major upturn in fortunes.

However, Spence has warned that improvement will only happen if they can produce consistency at The Villa - starting with a win against Grangetown Boys Club on Saturday.
He told The Gazette: “We’ve brought in some big name signings and it has gelled very quickly. We’ve had a good pre-season and there is pressure but it’s all pressure from ourselves to be honest. There is no pressure from above but there is from ourselves. Everyone is pulling in the same direction, everything has gelled. We brought in a lot of players last year and it was hard to get and get them playing the way we want to play but it hasn’t been like that this summer.
“We are at home, our home form was horrendous last season and it has to be better if we want to push towards the play-offs. Grangetown is a good starting point for us and we know what we want to do.”
