Boldon CA 4-0 Newcastle University: Impressive win the perfect preparation for historic FA Vase tie

Callum Larmouth scored a hat-trick as Boldon CA picked up an impressive 4-0 win over Newcastle University on Saturday - full story in Monday’s Shields Gazette.

Boldon CA joint-manager Chris Spence quickly turned his focus towards next Saturday’s FA Vase second round tie at FC St Helens following Saturday’s 4-0 home win against Newcastle University.

A Callum Larmouth hat-trick and another from Liam Thear saw the Villa claim a comfortable victory at the Boldon Colliery Welfare Ground and move up to second in the Northern League Division Two table.

Boldon sit three points behind Billingham Town with a game in hand on the league leaders. But for now, their attention turns firmly to the FA Vase.

Preparations will now get underway for a historic Vase tie in the North West as Boldon look to reach the third round of the competition for only the second time in their history and for the first time since 1978 when a 3-2 defeat at South Yorkshire club Bentley Victoria ended their run.

Spence admitted his side are facing a tough challenge as they look to land a place in next Monday’s draw - but insisted they can create more history with a win against the North West Counties Premier Division club.

He told The Gazette: “The lads are buzzing now it’s getting closer. We’ll go down there and give it a really good go. We know it’s going to be tough - but these are the games we want to be involved in as a football club. Hopefully, we can put in a good performance and progress into the next round and make more history for the club.”
