Lallana joined Sunday’s St James’s Park opponents Brighton and Hove Albion as a free agent this summer after leaving Premier League champions Liverpool. However, the 32-year-old midfielder, plagued by injury problems during his Anfield career, was forced off against Chelsea last weekend.

Bright manager Graham Potter said: “He’s going to join the group today for training, so that’s really positive. The initial concerns, it wasn’t as bad as we thought.

“It’s understandable when you consider Adam’s history, but he’s been great since he’s been with us, and we’re delighted to have him, and we need to try and help him be on the pitch as much as possible.
