Daniel Moore hails Hebburn Town attitude as promotion push continues

Hebburn Town will host Northern Premier League Premier Division rivals Stocksbridge Park Steels on Saturday.

Daniel Moore has been enthused by the attitude shown by his Hebburn Town players during their unexpected push for the Northern Premier League Premier Division title.

The Hornets rounded off arguably their best week of the season last Saturday when top scorer Gary Martin grabbed the only goal of the game in a narrow win at bottom of the table Workington. The victory in Cumbria came on the back of back-to-back home wins against Ashton United and Whitby Town that took Moore’s men above title rivals Hednesford Town and into the driving seat for promotion into the National League North.

The Hornets will return to home soil on Saturday as they face relegation threatened Stocksbridge Park Steels, who are currently scrapping to preserve their step three status. Moore has warned his players of the threat they will face this weekend - and stressed the importance of showing the right attitude once again.

He told The Gazette: “Stocksbridge’s form away from home is probably better than their home form so we know this is going to be a difficult game for us. We don’t read anything into league positions or anything like that, we will prepare for the game as we would any other.

“It’s a difficult game for two reasons. They want points to stay in the league, we want points to stay at the top of the league and it’s a big challenge and another challenge we will have to meet head on. The players are doing that so well and you look at last week at Workington, on a difficult pitch, it’s a tough place to go anyway, and we showed real character and controlled the game. There were never going to be loads of chances, we were comfortable and we now just have to carry on our home form and build on everything we have put in place with our strong form.”

Moore could consider handing starts to the likes of Joao Gomes, Kian Foreman and Joe Oliver after they were named as substitutes for last weekend’s win at Workington. Striker Gary Martin will be looking to find the net for a fourth consecutive game as he continues to play a pivotal role in Hebburn’s promotion push.
