FA Vase: Jarrow will be up for first round tie with South Tyneside neighbours Boldon CA

South Tyneside rivals Boldon CA and Jarrow were paired together in the FA Vase first round draw earlier this week.

Boldon CA and Jarrow will go head-to-head for a chance to make history after the South Tyneside rivals were paired together in the FA Vase first round proper draw.

Jarrow will hope to land a place in the second round of the competition for only the second time in their history after they claimed a shock win against Northern League Division One side Marske United on Saturday afternoon. The last time they reached that stage came in 2020/21 when a brave performance failed to reap a reward as they fell to a penalty shoot-out defeat against a Warrington Rylands side that would go on to lift the Vase at Wembley just months later.

For current manager Kennie Malia, the excitement over next month’s South Tyneside derby is already growing as he insisted his side will be ‘totally up for the game’ once second round weekend rolls around.

He told The Gazette: "It’s crazy to think that out of 103 fixtures across the round, we have drawn a team that is in our league and one that are our local rivals. We will be totally up for the game and we can’t wait for it to come around next month.”

Boldon had already seen off higher level opposition in the form of Longridge Town earlier in the competition by the time they claimed a 3-0 win at step five club Campion on Sunday afternoon. That ensured Keaton Trott and Chris Spence’s men had taken the club into the first round for the first time in 46 years - and their local rivals now stand in the way of landing a second round spot for the first time since 1978.
