Newcastle United dealt fresh injury blow after striker ruled out for two months
Newcastle United injuries: Matthias Jaissle has confirmed a fresh injury blow to William Osula following Thursday’s 3-1 defeat at Everton.
Matthias Jaissle admitted he was forced into a half-time change during Newcastle United’s 3-1 defeat at Everton on Thursday night.
William Osula, in only his second start back from injury, was forced off following a challenge from James Tarkowski. The 23-year-old initially played on until half-time after receiving treatment but did not emerge for the second half.
Jacob Ramsey and Harvey Barnes were also withdrawn as Yoane Wissa, Joelinton and Anthony Elanga came on for the second half.

NUFC injury blow confirmed
When asked to explain his half-time changes, Jaissle confirmed an injury blow for Osula.
“[The substitutions] was something to do with getting offensive power in the game,” Jaissle said.
“With these guys, of course, Will Osula was not able to continue; he twisted his ankle on that occasion when he took the shot, and with the other two as well, we wanted to have a bit more fresh energy at the end, and also with thinking, of course, about Monday’s match.”
When asked if Osula could be involved for the match against Everton in the Premier League at St James’ Park on Monday night, Jaissle told the Gazette: “Yeah, it's too early at the moment.”
Elsewhere in the squad, Matias Fernandez-Pardo and Lewis Miley missed the match at the Hill Dickinson Stadium and will be doubts for Monday’s match, while Ewen Jaouen and Tino Livramento remain out.
Newcastle sit eighth in the Premier League table following Sunday’s win at Crystal Palace and will be looking to bounce back from Thursday’s disappointing cup exit by getting quick revenge on Everton at St James’ Park.
The Toffees have won each of their last two visits to Newcastle in the Premier League and would leapfrog them in the table with another win.
Matthias Jaissle reflects on Everton defeat
Reflecting on Thursday’s defeat with one eye on Monday’s match, Jaissle said: “We are, of course, disappointed with the result. It's also a bit shocking at the moment, because overall the game was not that bad.
“But it's a bit the story of the season so far, in situations where it really counts, we lack in the clinical approach to solve the situations.
“These are the things we need to learn quickly. We had many, many occasions, many opportunities to score, big chances as well, and also in their box we need to be more clinical to get a different result.”
