Hebburn Town boss determined to get former Newcastle United man 'fit and firing'

Hebburn Town have completed the signing of former Newcastle United forward Tom Allan.

Hebburn Town manager Daniel Moore is determined to get new signing Tom Allan ‘fit and firing’ during his preparations for a historic season in the National League North.

The Hornets boss made the former Newcastle United and Gateshead forward his second summer signing on Friday as he followed in the footsteps of fellow forward Jake Charles by putting pen-to-paper on a deal at the Trustmark Group Stadium. After making a solitary senior appearance for the Magpies and spending time on loan with Accrington Stanley and Morton, Allan became an FA Trophy with Gateshead and earned further experience in non-league during loan stints at South Shields and Hebburn Town.

He joined Darlington last summer following his departure from the Heed and worked under former Newcastle United star Steve Watson during his time at Blackwell Meadows. Allan made 37 National League North appearances during the campaign and will now hope to help Hebburn shine during their first ever season in the second tier of the non-league game.

The forward’s versatility will provide a major benefit for Hornets boss Moore and he admitted that could become a common theme as more new signings arrive before the new season gets underway.

He told The Gazette: “Tom is really versatile as a forward, he can play anywhere across the forward line, he’s sharp, he can play as a nine if needed and he wants to play regular football. We have done our background checks on him and everything we have had back on him was overwhelmingly positive. He’s spoken to players that have played for me and he knows he will enjoy his football with us.

“We have to look at bringing in players that can play in multiple positions because we won’t have a lot of depth like some clubs. I’ve seen Tom play in three or four positions and that’s a big plus for us. Pre-season we will build him up as much as we can so when it comes to the start of the season, he will be fit and firing. We look after the players, we got the games in and we will make sure he is fully prepared for the new season.”
