Ex-Hartlepool United man Darren Holden started at left-back, while Darryl Donnelly also started.

A brace from Paul Brayson and Stephen Tobin and Liam Hudson goals ensured a comfortable victory for Benfield, while Brayson was denied his hat-trick late on by Andrew Jennison’s penalty save.

It only took two minutes for Benfield to take the lead when Dylan McEvoy’s free-kick was met well by Tobin.

Roofers’ start to the match went from bad to worse when Paul Brayson rose to head home Moussa Bakhiti’s cross and put the visitors 2-0 up.

That goal was a wake-up call for Roofing as they began to fashion some opportunities of their own.

Paul Chow played in Michael Mackay with a cross-field ball, but his low effort was straight at Benfield’s keeper.

Minutes later, Calvin Smith sent in a ball towards Dan Kirkup, but the defender put it over the bar.

Just as the home side looked like they might claw themselves back into the game, they conceded a third.

Ryu Williamson ran at the Roofing defence and played in Brayson, who bagged his second goal of the game with a delicate chip past the onrushing Jennison.

Roofing’s best chance came in the 40th minute when Mackay took a shot on the turn, but fired it high.

Benfield completed the scoring shortly after the interval when Brayson’s effort was well saved by Jennsion, unfortunately for Roofing, Hudson was on hand to turn in the rebound.

Roofing continued to throw men forward and attack, but they still could not get on the scoresheet.

Chow forced an incredible save from Grainger before Shaun Vipond went even closer only a minute later.

A Roofing corner was dropped by Grainger around the six-yard box, but Vipond snatched at the chance and put it over.

Benfield were awarded a penalty in the 86th minute when Donnelly pulled down Scott McCarthy.

Brayson stepped up in the hope of completing his hat-trick, but Jennsion saved well.
