Ivan Toney scored for a third time against his old employers on Saturday, tucking home his second penalty of the afternoon after seeing his first effort saved by Nick Pope.
Although the Bees couldn’t hold onto their first-half lead, with Alexander Isak’s fantastic strike sealing the win for the visitors following David Raya’s own goal, Toney once again showed the Magpies just what a presence he has become up-front since he leaving Tyneside on a permanent basis five years ago.
Toney’s successes since leaving St James’ Park have been well documented and here, we take a look at some players that, like Toney, enjoyed a far more successful career after they had left Newcastle United.
What are your memories of these players? Should Newcastle have held onto them for longer? Follow us on our social media channels and let us know your thoughts there.

5. Jon Dahl Tomasson
The Dane spent just one season on Tyneside, scoring just four times in 35 appearances. He would move onto Feyenoord before joining AC Milan where he added the Champions League to his trophy cabinet as the Rossoneri defeated Juventus at Old Trafford. Photo: Stu Forster

6. James Tavernier
Tavernier had loan spells at clubs like Gateshead, Carlisle United and Shrewsbury Town before his Newcastle career eventually came to an end when he joined Wigan Athletic in 2014. Tavernier has enjoyed great success north of the border with Rangers, becoming their club captain and a magician from dead ball situations. Photo: Alex Livesey

7. Moussa Sissoko
In fairness to Sissoko, he enjoyed a relatively successful time at Newcastle, however, relegation in his final season at the club meant he left with little fanfare. A move to Spurs was eventually agreed late into the 2016 summer transfer window and the Frenchman would go on to play in a Champions League final. Photo: Stu Forster

8. Joselu
After scoring just seven times in two years on Tyneside, Joselu moved back to Spain where he has enjoyed huge success. 48 goals in four seasons led him to receive a first call-up to the national side during the most recent international break, one that saw him bag a two minute brace on debut.
