Ivan Toney scored for a third time against his old employers on Saturday, tucking home his second penalty of the afternoon after seeing his first effort saved by Nick Pope.
Although the Bees couldn’t hold onto their first-half lead, with Alexander Isak’s fantastic strike sealing the win for the visitors following David Raya’s own goal, Toney once again showed the Magpies just what a presence he has become up-front since he leaving Tyneside on a permanent basis five years ago.
Toney’s successes since leaving St James’ Park have been well documented and here, we take a look at some players that, like Toney, enjoyed a far more successful career after they had left Newcastle United.
What are your memories of these players? Should Newcastle have held onto them for longer? Follow us on our social media channels and let us know your thoughts there.

9. Aleksandar Mitrovic
Mitrovic has become Serbia’s all-time top-scorer and obliterated the Championship record for most goals in a season all since leaving Newcastle United. Mitrovic is now a key part of Marco Silva’s Fulham side and has 11 goals in just 21 Premier League matches this season. Whilst on Tyneside, Mitrovic managed just 17 goals in 72 games. 10. Luuk de Jong
After a 12 game loan spell that elicited zero goals, De Jong would go on to score 94 goals in four seasons back at PSV, earning himself a move to Sevilla. A Europa League winner's medal would come his way before he then moved to Barcelona for the 2021/22 campaign. Aged 32, De Jong is now back at PSV and has 12 goals this season. Photo: Steve Bardens

11. Facundo Ferreyra
The Ukrainian spent just one season on-loan at Newcastle but never made a competitive appearance. After moving back to his parent club Shakhtar Donetsk, Ferrerya netted 30 league goals in two seasons, form that earned him a move to Benfica ahead of the 2018/19 season. Ferreyra was never able to recapture the goal scoring form he showed in Ukraine however. Photo: Paul Thomas
