With the return of European football to St James’ Park becoming more and more likely as games go by, Newcastle United could have a very busy summer on their hands.
Both quality and depth will need to be added to Eddie Howe’s squad if they are to successfully balance the demands of domestic and European football next season.
Unsurprisingly, there have been plenty of players rumoured to be on the move to St James’ Park this summer - but which are likely to join and which players probably won’t be moving to Tyneside?
Here, we take a look at a host of players that have been linked with a move to Newcastle United this summer and assess whether they are likely to join the club or not.

13. Conor Gallagher (possible)
Chelsea’s squad overhaul over the last two transfer windows mean they have a very bloated playing staff at Stamford Bridge. One of the losers of this could be Gallagher with his spot in the first-team not guaranteed. Newcastle have been long-term admirers of him and could swoop for his signature this summer. 14. Jude Bellingham (unlikely)
Newcastle are among a select group of clubs that would be able to afford the fee Borussia Dortmund will demand for Bellingham this summer. Around £130m is what the German side are set to demand for the teenager and whilst Newcastle could afford this fee, it’s likely that Bellingham would choose a move to a more established Champions League side. 15. Marcus Thuram (possible)
Thuram will be a free agent this summer with his contract at Borussia Moenchengladbach set to expire in a few months time. Allan Saint-Maximin has spoken of his desire to see his compatriot join him on Tyneside and with Financial Fair Play restrictions to consider, a free transfer for the Frenchman wouldn’t be the worst idea.
