5. 1997-98: Barnsley - 31 points
Barnsley's only top flight season in their history came to a disappointing end just as they seemed to have turned a corner. Following three consecutive wins, The Tykes had 31 points going into their final nine matches but they proceeded to win one, draw one and lose seven of their final nine matches to be relegated in 19th on 35 points. 6. 1996-97: Sunderland - 32 points
Sunderland were 15th on 32 points going into the final nine games of the 1996-97 season. Eight points from their final nine games saw them end the season on 40 points but it wasn't enough to keep them in the Premier League. They finished 18th, becoming one of only three sides to be relegated from the Premier League after picking up 40 or more points during a 38 game season. Photo: Stu Forster

7. 1994-95: Norwich City - 36 points
Norwich were comfortable in 14th with 36 points after 29 games during the 1994-95 season. This just so happened to be the final 42 game Premier League season, meaning The Canaries still had 13 games to go at this point. A run of one win and four draws from their final run of matches saw them relegated in 20th on 43 points. Photo: Ben Radford

8. 1992-93: Nottingham Forest - 31 points
Nottingham Forest are the only side to finish bottom of the table despite picking up 31 points or more after 29 games. A run of two wins and three draws saw them finish 22nd on 40 points. Not even the best efforts of PFA Team of the Year member Roy Keane could stop Forest going down. Photo: Shaun Botterill
