There is an air of mystery surrounding what the January transfer window could look like at Newcastle United.
Their Financial Fair Play constraints mean a smaller spend than their last two windows is likely, however, there are areas of the squad Eddie Howe would like to strengthen this month.
But how do the Magpies, who know a good window could be vital in their European ambitions, navigate a notoriously tricky market?
Here, we take a look at a long list of players that have been linked with a move to Newcastle United in January and analyse whether a move is likely this month and what they could bring to St James’s Park if they made the switch.

9. Mykhaylo Mudryk
Newcastle, Chelsea and Arsenal have all been linked with the Ukrainian who has been mightily impressive at Shakhtar Donetsk this season. Mudryk can play up-front or out wide and has proven he can score goals in the Champions League. With a price tag of over £50million though, a move for the Ukrainian will come at a price for any side wanting to sign him this month. Photo: Ian MacNicol

10. James Maddison
Maddison would undoubtedly be a major coup for Newcastle this month, however, Leicester’s valuation of the 26 year old may be prohibitive to a move. Maddison would slot seamlessly into Howe’s starting side and could play a variety of roles in midfield and in attack. Photo: Alex Pantling

11. Cody Drameh
Newcastle are on the hunt for full-back reinforcements and Drameh's lack of regular football at Elland Road could offer them a chance to swoop for the 21 year old. He has developed at Leeds and more will be needed to turn him into a regular first-team player, but Howe has already proven just how much players can improve under his management - could Drameh be the next player to benefit? 12. Maximo Perrone
The young Argentine midfielder looks destined to sign for a Premier League team in the not too distant future with both Manchester City and Newcastle eyeing his signature. Perrone has made a huge impression whilst at Velez Sarsfield and is someone that is comfortable playing either as a central midfielder, or in a deeper role. Photo: Marcelo Endelli
