Perez will be in the Leicester City team which faces Steve Bruce’s side this afternoon. The forward, sold to the club for £30million in the summer, is still in touch with a number of his former colleagues.

“I still do (talk to the Newcastle United players),” Perez told LCFC TV. “We still have a group of the Spanish speakers – we keep in touch.

“Sometimes, when somebody does something good we congratulate each other, so we’re still in touch.

“It was (at Newcastle United during) an important period of my career, my life, so I keep in contact with them. It will always be special for me.”

Perez spoke to a number of his former team-mates after Newcastle’s 5-0 defeat to Leicester at the King Power Stadium in late September. The loss left the club 19th in the Premier League. The club is now 11th in the table, while Leicester are second.

“I spoke to them (after the 5-0 defeat), and I felt sorry for them, because it was a tough moment for them, not getting many results, not getting many points, at the bottom,” said 26-year-old Perez.

“I’m pleased they’re getting a couple of wins, they’re getting some points. They’re now in a much more comfortable position.

“Now it’s time to play against us. It’s going to be a tough game for us, but if we give our best, we can get a win.”
