The Three Lions boss named his latest squad this afternoon, with England set to face the Republic of Ireland and Belgium in friendly and Nations League action respectively.

Earlier national reports had suggested Southgate would favour Manchester United’s Mason Greenwood, but he too has been left out of the squad.

Shoe-ins Harry Kane, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Raheem Sterling have all been given the nod alongside Tammy Abraham, who retains his spot despite netting just one Premier League goal this season.

Both Wilson and Leeds United’s Patrick Bamford have enjoyed a better start to the campaign, netting six times each so far.

The 28-year-old Magpies striker – who signed from AFC Bournemouth during the summer transfer window – has scored once in four England caps previously.

Jack Grealish rounds off England's attacking options, with the Aston Villa man also given the nod by Southgate.
