'Here we go' - Newcastle United favourite set for Premier League return weeks after being spotted on Tyneside
Premier League transfers: A former Newcastle United striker is set to make a quickfire return to the Premier League.
Former Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson is set to be handed an immediate return to the Premier League after suffering relegation into the Championship with West Ham United.
The 34-year-old joined the Hammers on a one-year deal following his departure from Newcastle last summer and went on to score seven goals in 35 appearances in all competitions during what has now become his first and only season with the London club. However, his goals were not enough to prevent Nuno Espirito Santo’s side sliding into the second tier.

Wilson had been mentioned as a possible target for Scottish Premiership champions Celtic and Premier League newcomers Hull City in recent weeks - but there are now strong reports suggesting Brentford head coach Keith Andrews is set to add the experienced striker to his squad. A post released via Sky Sports’ X account said: Brentford are close to signing Callum Wilson on free transfer. The striker is a free agent after leaving relegated West Ham and is set to sign a one-year deal”.
Transfer influencer Fabrizio Romano also gave the move his ‘here we go’ seal of approval.
Callum Wilson on West Ham relegation
Speaking via his social media accounts in the days after a disappointing season came to close, the former England striker said: "It hurts. We have failed as a team and definitely fallen short of everyone’s expectations. It was well documented that I had a history with West Ham, yet from the moment I arrived, I felt nothing but welcomed by all the fans here. I felt really good and positive coming into this season, and I believe I could have contributed more given the opportunity.
"As you could see, my time on the pitch was very limited at times, but that was out of my control. I’ve always trained hard, kept my integrity, and given my all whenever I’ve been allowed to wear the iconic Claret and Blue shirt. For now, all I can say is thank you. Thank you to everyone who supported us. Your passion is amazing, and I truly hope you return to the Premier League, where you belong, as soon as possible.”
Callum Wilson spotted on Tyneside
Wilson’s expected move comes after the striker was spotted back in Newcastle during the off-season. During his return to Tyneside, the 34-year-old visited Cute as Cakes in Wallsend on two occasions and even posed for photos that were shared to their Facebook page.

The striker still has a strong connection with the area, having spent five years at Newcastle before his release last summer.
