Real Madrid have also been linked with a move for the 19-year-old who Wilson believes has all the attributes to become a top player. Speaking on The Footballer’s Football Podcast, Wilson said: “It was the first time I had seen him play, when I was in the squad last, he was probably 16, I think.

“He was good. Solid midfielder. He has got everything. Great feet. Strong. Quick and he can finish. The world is his oyster.”

When asked who he'd like Bellingham to join, Wilson cheekily suggested St James’s Park as a potential destination, before acknowledging a move for the midfielder may not be realistic any time soon: “Newcastle, obviously.” Wilson said.

“For us, we aren’t at that level yet to get a player like Jude. He’s going to be very expensive.

“Don’t get me wrong, I would love to have him at the club, but it’s too soon, I would say.”
