Newcastle United full-back Jamal Lewis is preparing for the new 2024-25 season as he faces an uncertain future.

Lewis is into the final year of his contract at St James’ Park following his £15million arrival from Norwich City in 2020. He spent last season on loan at Watford in the Championship, making 38 appearances in all competitions.

The Hornets had an option to make Lewis’ loan move permanent but decided against triggering a deal this summer, leaving Lewis looking for a new club once again.

The 26-year-old featured for Newcastle in pre-season last summer before securing a loan move. The Magpies will look to secure a permanent exit for Lewis this summer.

In the meantime, Lewis has been working on his fitness during the off-season outside of Barnet’s Hive Stadium in London with fitness trainer Connor Peters.

Training alongside Lewis was Everton midfielder Dele Alli and West Bromwich Albion midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah. Much like Lewis, Alli is at a crossroads in his career as he is out of contract at Everton after failing to feature throughout the 2023-24 campaign due to injury.

The season prior, the former England international spent time on loan at Besiktas but his spell in Turkey was cut short due to injury. Alli hasn’t played a minute of competitive football since February 2023 as he works on his fitness ahead of the new campaign.

The 28-year-old was briefly linked with a move to Newcastle during Eddie Howe’s first transfer window in January 2022. The Magpies ultimately distanced themselves from a deal as Alli joined Everton instead.

Despite being a free agent, Alli will be allowed to train at Everton with a new contract not ruled out.
