Eddie Howe’s predicted Newcastle United XI v Ipswich Town as Anthony Gordon decision made
Eddie Howe has a number of decisions to make to his Newcastle United team when they host Ipswich Town on Saturday.
Newcastle United will aim to put last weekend’s disappointment at Villa Park behind them when they face Kieran McKenna’s side at St James’ Park on Saturday. A win for Newcastle United would see them restore a five-point gap to Villa as the race for Champions League qualification heats up.

The Magpies will have Eddie Howe on the touchline this weekend, after he was discharged from hospital, with Jason Tindall to resume assistant manager duties. Six wins in a row preceded their defeat against Villa last weekend as they named an unchanged team yet again.
However, with Anthony Gordon back, will Howe be tempted into making a change this weekend? The front-three shone in the reverse fixture at Portman Road as Alexander Isak’s hat-trick and a thumping effort from Jacob Murphy secured a 4-0 win.
Here, we take a look at the starting XI that Howe could name for his side’s clash with Ipswich Town at St James’ Park. Do you agree with our picks? Follow us on our social media channels and let us know your thoughts there.
Newcastle United predicted XI v Ipswich Town
Nick Pope
Pope conceded four times on his last appearance, although two of those came after wicked deflections off his teammates. He didn’t feature in the reverse fixture at Portman Road after being injured a fortnight previous.
Kieran Trippier
Trippier endured a very tough afternoon at Villa Park alongside many of his teammates. Hopefully he will have a quieter afternoon defensively this weekend.
Fabian Schar
Schar had an all action first half at Villa Park, but was withdrawn in the second through injury. It is hoped that was just as a precaution and that he will be fit to face Ipswich Town.
Dan Burn
Despite only two teams scoring less than Ipswich this season, Burn will need to be on top form, particularly against Liam Delap.
Tino Livramento
Livramento will be keen to regain form after a disappointing afternoon in the Midlands last weekend.
Bruno Guimaraes
The Brazilian cut a frustrated figure last weekend. He will be hopeful of leading his side to another victory on Saturday - one that could prove pivotal in their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League.
Sandro Tonali
Tonali has starred at St James’ Park in recent weeks and is one of the first names on the teamsheet.
Joelinton
Joelinton did not enjoy a good afternoon last weekend and will be keen to right that performance on Saturday.
Jacob Murphy
Murphy scored a stunning effort in the reverse fixture in December and bettered that strike with a phenomenal assist for Isak’s hat-trick goal.
Alexander Isak
Isak’s three goals at Portman Road mean he is still the only Newcastle United player to score a hat-trick in the last five years.
Anthony Gordon
Harvey Barnes has been brilliant in recent weeks, but Gordon will be champing at the bit for a start and he may be included just to freshen up the team.
