Newcastle United host Ipswich Town on Saturday - but have concerns over two of their key players heading into that clash.

Newcastle United head into their clash with the Tractor Boys knowing that a win would see them open up a five-point gap over Aston Villa, whilst also sealing Ipswich Town’s relegation to the Championship. Newcastle’s defeat over Villa last weekend saw them lose ground in the race for Champions League qualification, with doubts over Fabian Schar’s fitness growing after he was substituted during that match.

Newcastle’s worries over Schar’s fitness and Sven Botman’s recovery, though, pale in comparison to those facing Kieran McKenna in the opposite dugout who could be without ten players for their trip to the north east. Here, we take a look at the latest injury news from both camps ahead of Newcastle United v Ipswich Town this weekend:

Ipswich Town team and injury news v Newcastle United

Nathan Broadhead - doubt

The former Sunderland loanee has suffered a thigh injury and is a major doubt to face Newcastle United this weekend.

Conor Townsend - doubt

A hamstring issue means Townsend is a doubt to feature at St James’ Park.

Kalvin Phillips - out

McKenna revealed last week that Phillips was not training with the first-team. He is not expected to feature this weekend.

Sammie Szmodics - out

An ankle injury, one that required surgery, will keep Szmodics sidelined this weekend. He scored for Blackburn Rovers against Newcastle United last season during their FA Cup meeting at Ewood Park, but saw his penalty in the shootout saved by Martin Dubravka.

Omari Hutchinson - out

Newcastle United injury news v Ipswich Town

Jamaal Lascelles - out

Lascelles hasn’t featured since March last year and is still recovering from an ACL injury. He faces a race against time to be fit before the end of the season.

Fabian Schar - doubt

Schar was substituted against Aston Villa with a minor hamstring injury. Tindall admitted post-match that the defender was withdrawn to protect him from aggravating that issue.

Sven Botman - doubt

Botman hasn’t featured since February, but is edging closer to a return with Tindall revealing last week that the clash against Ipswich Town could be a realistic date for his return. WIth doubts over Schar’s fitness, Botman’s return couldn’t come at a better time for the Magpies if he is able to feature this weekend.
