Eddie Howe has provided an official update on Alexander Isak after naming him in his Newcastle United starting line-up at Fulham.

Isak was a doubt in the week building up to the game after picking up a toe injury during the win at Wolverhampton Wanderers last Sunday. Howe said in his Friday press conference that a late call would be made on the striker after he missed part of training in the week with the foot issue.

But Isak was passed fit enough to start on his 25th birthday as Newcastle looked to continue their unbeaten start to the new season.

When asked about Isak’s fitness ahead of the match, Howe told Premier League Productions: “Hopefully Alex can play as long as we need him today.

“I think he's fully fit, he's overcome his toe injury. The front three is slightly different for us, we hope that they can gel and do well today.”

Howe made four changes to the side that beat Wolves in total with match-winner Harvey Barnes coming into the side for Jacob Murphy, Joe Willock replacing Sean Longstaff in midfield and both full-backs changing with Tino Livramento and Lewis Hall being replaced by Kieran Trippier and Lloyd Kelly respectively.

Sandro Tonali’s wait for a Premier League start following his ban continues as he remains on the bench.

“We've got a very strong squad so we've got the ability to rotate,” Howe added. “We've got three big games coming up this week so we're trying to make sure the players, when they enter the pitch are in their best physical condition. I'm exited by the team and hope we can perform well.”
