Newcastle United official Fabian Schar injury update after defender rushed to hospital in 4-3 win v Leeds
Newcastle United 4-3 Leeds United: A dramatic evening for The Magpies saw Fabian Schar stretchered off the pitch with an ankle injury.
Newcastle United defender Fabian Schar is potentially facing a spell on the sidelines after being stretchered off with an ankle injury in the 4-3 win over Leeds United on Wednesday night.

The score was 2-2 at the time when Schar went down in pain after tangling with Leeds striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin. Leeds took the lead through Brenden Aaronson minutes later but the significant delay caused by Schar’s injury led to 10 minutes of stoppage time being added.
Bruno Guimaraes equalised in the first minute of stoppage time before Harvey Barnes scored the latest winner in Premier League history to make it 4-3 in the 102nd minute.
It was Barnes’ second goal of the game after initially cancelling out Aaronson’s opener. Calvert-Lewin made it 2-1 from the penalty spot before Joelinton made it 2-2 early in the second half.
Following the match, Howe provided a brief update on Schar’s serious-looking injury.
“It doesn't look good for Fabian, he's in hospital at the moment, he's got an ankle problem,” the Newcastle boss confirmed. “We hope it's not as serious as it looks, we send him our love.”

Schar had just made his 250th appearance for Newcastle against Crystal Palace on Sunday. As things stand, the Swiss centre-back is out of contract at the end of the season and will be free to leave the club unless a new deal is agreed.
“Such an important player, he's been incredible for us since we've come to the football club, he's been almost an ever-present, he's always put his body on the line for the team and it looks like he picked up a bad injury unfortunately,” Howe added.
Fabian Schar contract latest
Speaking ahead of the Leeds match, Howe wouldn’t rule out a new deal for Schar.
“Yeah, there's definitely the possibility [of a new contract], I think. All these things will take care of itself in time.
“All Fabian can do is continue to play at the level that he is.”
