Nolan has been out of work since 2018, when he was sacked from his role as player/coach at Notts County. The former West Ham and Bolton Wanderers midfielder has also managed Leyton Orient.

Grimsby are currently 18th in League Two, just four points above the drop zone.

Nolan made 91 appearances for Newcastle in his two and a half years on Tyneside, scoring 30 goals.
