'Honestly' - Johan Manzambi has already addressed his future as Newcastle United push to secure deal

Johan Manzambi has already addressed his future as Newcastle United push to secure a deal.

Newcastle United target Johan Manzambi refused to rule out leaving Freiberg this summer.

The 20-year-old is a man in demand having caught the eye at this summer’s World Cup, but the Magpies are pushing to secure a deal.

Manzambi has three goals and two assists in four games for Switzerland, helping them to top their group before beating Algeria 2-0 in the round of 32.

It comes off the back of an impressive campaign at club level, where he scored seven goals and registered seven assists for Freiberg as they reached the Europa League final and finished seventh in the Bundesliga.

Johan Manzambi refuses to rule out summer transfer

As interest builds, the player has already cast doubt over staying at Freiberg next season after giving a non-committal response when quizzed on the matter in May.

As reported by Sky Sports News, Freiberg are said to value Manzambi at £42million.

“I honestly don’t know,” Manzambi told Bild. “My contract runs until 2030. We’ll see. Right now, I have to prepare for the World Cup, then we’ll see what the future holds for me.”

His agent, Ismael Miller, also gave a similar answer ahead of the previous January transfer window.

Speaking in November, Miller told Stile TV (via Tribal Football): "Manzambi's priority is to continue the season with Freiburg, where he's doing very well. He wants to keep up the pace in the Bundesliga, then he'll play in the World Cup with Switzerland if they qualify, and then we'll see.

"So, before changing teams, we'll think about it carefully. Of course, my phone is always ringing, I get interest, but the boy wants to stay calm, finish the season at Freiburg, play for Switzerland, and then we'll see.

“Plan A remains continuity with Freiburg in the Bundesliga, but we all know football; if a significant offer comes in, I'm the first to evaluate it.

"We're grateful to Freiburg, but if an offer were to arrive that would allow the boy to develop, we would consider it, obviously also discussing it with the club."
