Shelvey and Almiron missed Newcastle United’s 1-0 Premier League defeat to Burnley at Turf Moor last weekend with calf and hamstring problems respectively.

However, the pair returned to training yesterday and could involved for the 11th-placed club against Crystal Palace at St James’s Park tomorrow.

“Almiron and Shelvey have a chance,” said head coach Bruce. “They trained yesterday. They both seemed OK. I wouldn’t take a risk if I didn’t think they were right. The risk was last week. We think they’ve done enough in the gym to make sure they are OK. The big risk would have been playing them last weekend.”

Allan Saint-Maximin and Ki Sung-yueng remain sidelined along with Karl Darlow, Ciaran Clark, Jamaal Lascelles and Matt Ritchie. Bruce added: “It’s still too early for Saint-Maximin.”
