The Frenchman’s assist and goal meant United walked away from Turf Moor with all three points – but who else shone on a successful day in the North West for the Magpies?
Here’s our writer Liam Kennedy’s player ratings – and he makes a big case for United goalkeeper Martin Dubravka to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with ASM as United match-winner….
5. Paul Dummett – 4
Very similar to Clark. A poor outing for Dummett. Performance was summed up by that near own goal in the opening 45. Didn't get much better after the break. Photo: PETER POWELL
6. Matt Ritchie – 7
A constant source of reasonably dangerous deliveries throughout the 90 minutes. Has added good balance to this United side down the left since being brought in from the cold. Photo: Pool
7. Jonjo Shelvey – 5
His first four touches in the game all went out of play. Obsessed with long balls in first half. None of them worked. More composed and compact in midfield after the break. Distribution still left a lot to be desired. Photo: PETER POWELL
8. Miguel Almiron – 6
Did a lot of running down blind alleys in this one. Nowhere near as big an impact as against Spurs. But still constantly showed for the ball and offered an 'out ball'. Another whose hard work comes as a given. Photo: STU FORSTER
