The 20-year-old played the first 45 minutes of the Magpies’ under-23 clash with Fulham at St James’s Park.

Longstaff, not seen in black and white since July’s home defeat off Tottenham Hotspur, was withdrawn at half-time by development boss Chris Hogg in a pre-agreed substitution, as the player edges back to fitness following a long-term muscle problem.

Longstaff signed a new two-year Newcastle United contract in the summer.
