Newcastle United transfer news: Magpies set sights on £39m duo but face competition from Premier League pair

Steve Bruce’s men drew 1-1 with Wolves but their four-point advantage over the relegation places was swiftly reduced to three after Fulham picked up a point at Crystal Palace.

The Magpies are level on points with Brighton and Hove Albion and two behind Burnley as the Cottagers look to apply further pressure via their midweek encounter with Tottenham Hotspur.

Should Scott Parker’s side win against Spurs, United will drop into the bottom three ahead of their crunch clash with Sam Allardyce’s Baggies on Sunday.

The South Korean, only 20-years-old, is a regular starter for the La Liga side having joined their academy at the age of 11.

When the end of the season comes around, Kang-in will have just 12 months left on his contract, which is attracting plenty of interest.

Meanwhile, Newcastle have shown interest in Benfica defender Nuno Tavares, as reported by Portuguese outlet O Jogo.

United are joined by Burnley and Napoli in the race but it is believed the Tyneside club’s interest is the “most intense at the moment” and have “already left the promise to soon put an offer for Tavares on the table”.

It is not the first time Newcastle have targeted the 21-year-old. Apparently, the Magpies were willing to pay around £13million to bring him to St James’s Park, a season and a half ago.
