Newcastle United all set for restart after Premier League vote
The Premier League is all set for next week’s long-awaited restart – after clubs agreed the final protocols.
The protocols for the third stage of the Premier League’s restart plan were approved today following successful returns socially-distanced and full-contract training. Newcastle United will resume their campaign with a behind-closed-doors home game against Sheffield United on June 21.
The season, which was suspended in March due to the coronavirus pandemic, will resume next Wednesday with a game between Aston Villa and Sheffield United at Villa Park.
The latest protocols cover every aspect of staging the remaining matches. Personnel will be limited inside and outside stadiums, which will be divided into different zones.
The game between Manchester City and Premier League leaders Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium on July 2 could yet be played at a neutral venue. All of the remaining 92 matches will be televised, with 33 of those games available free to air.
